So Alice has had a very busy week! Over last weekend, our downstairs neighbor, landlord and experienced mother Rayna stopped up for a visit. Not only did she shower us with some lovely presents( see the pic of adorable mary janes for when Alice is ready to start walking and a sweet Miracle Blanket) she told us not to get overwhelmed by everything but admitted that “the first few months were absolutely brutal”. Then she doled out some serious advice. Among other things, she instructed us on how to use the Miracle Blanket with Bearie ( my teddy bear). That night we tried it out and I have to admit I was surprised when it worked!

Alice slept like, well, a baby. We’ve been using the Miracle Blanket everyday since then. She is sleeping longer at night too! Rayna also told us about this book “The Happiest Baby on the Block” and how it helped her a ton with her son Milo. My mom has also mentioned this title, so I finally put it on hold at the library in Woodside. I am going to pick it up tomorrow.
I was so surprised at the success of this Miracle Blanket. I don’t know, I guess I thought a lot of the baby gear stuff didn’t work but parents buy them because they are simply desperate. But the Miracle Blanket worked! I decided it was maybe time to explore the world of baby gear a bit further. A few months before Alice arrived, Dan and I bought a baby carrier at a kind of fancy baby store on the UES before we moved out to Queens. So we finally tried out the baby carrier the other day and guess what? Totally worked. Actually I am wearing little Alice right now as I type this. She is nestled cozy and safe. And I love baby wearing because it allows me to do other things while I am still close to my daughter.

On Tuesday we had a nice long visit with Jon. After munching on homemade trail mix, we all went for a walk to Doughboy Park, which is a small park a few blocks from our apartment. The weather was great, it was great to get out for a little bit and it was really nice to have a visitor.
